I have owned several Marlin lever guns in Rounds including 44 Magnum, 357 Magnum, 30-30 Win. and 22 LR but my 45/70 is not a lever gun. It is a Custom Made Bolt Action starting with a Navy Arms Siam Barreled action. I have considered buying a Marlin 45/70 many times. I think that it is the better of the 2 large Calibers. I have heard that the 444 Marlin using a Pistol Bullet has failed. But the 450 Marlin or 45/70 are better. I put a lot of work in my Bolt action 45/70 and that is my rifle when a big bullet is called for. I may get a Marlin 450 or 45/70 someday. They are great guns.

How many rounds? 5 rounds. The Siam Mauser was designed for a large rimmed 8mm cartridge and were made in Japan. It is a Mauser copied from the German Mauser not the Arisaka. When the actions became available it was found that the bolt would work on the 45/70 so they put a large 45/70 barrel on the action. I bought one from a gun shop and fitted it in a Bishop Stock but had to have it Drilled and tapped for the scope and have the bolt handle bent down to clear the scope.
When I took it on a moose hunt I loaded the 45/70 rounds way higher than I would dare with a Marlin Lever Action.
