A few bits of info. The 30/40 krag was the first US. Weapon adopted by the military to use smoke less powder, a big advantage over black powder, not giving away your position, with a big belch of smoke when you fire your weapon. The cartridge replaced the 45/70 government as the cartridge of choice for military use.
My rifle above was made over 100 yrs ago 1898
It was a short lived military weapon, because it couldn't be
Reloaded with chargers / stripper clips.
So it was replaced with the 1903 Springfield 30.06

Ammo is no problem, you won't find it in wally world,
But gun shops carry it. And reloading supplies are easy to come by.
