Anyone have a suggestion for a good gunsmith specializing in military rifles? Have 2 eddystones want to have evaluated for range use or possibly rebarrel. I'm in southern Maine.

Not from that area, but I would trust the people at Kittery Trading Post , for that job. They have a custom gun shop
I believe.
I have a couple Enfield s, great shooters.

Over the past 50 or so years I have owned a number of old military rifles like a 1903 A4 Springfield 30-06 and a Jap Type 38 carbine in 6.5mm in original condition but I have owned more that were modified by BUBBA INC like 2 SMLE Enfields 303 British, a Krag Carbine 30-40 original except the stock, and A Mauser 1893 in 7 mm Mauser. These all were fun to shoot but of course were not collector items. I have tried various other Military rifles original and Bubba Modified but when I am going to do hunting and serious shooting I definitely want a commercial Hunting or target rifle.

Thanks for your reply, I have had or have many also
The only bubba rifle I really liked was a 8mm mauser
That someone did a professional job on, but I couldn't
Shoot it worth a darn. It had a scout mounted scope
Way down the barrel, a low power pistol scope, my old eyes just couldn't focus that rig.

Being a fan of Col. Jeff Cooper over the years I of course wanted a Scout Rifle as soon as I read his book, "The Art Of The RIFLE". As he had started with a Remington Model 600 I considered having a Scout Scope put on my favorite deer rifle, my Remington Model 600 in 243 Win but could not bring my self to do that. When the Scout Rifles became available I felt that the STEYR SCOUT was out of my price range. Then Ruger and Savage brought out their versions at a much better price. I looked at both and went with the Ruger. A Burris Scout Scope and some magazines completed the outfit. While not a real Military Rifle it was what the good Col. felt should be one. I do not have a problem with the forward mounted scope as I have been using one on my Hastings Rifled barrel for my 870 Remington Shotgun for years. I do not think I would want a "pistol scope" on any rifle.
