Duracoat fire-arm paint
Duracoat is good stuff! An airbrush is required, so its quite an investment for someone looking to paint just one gun. It is worth it though because it's as permanent as a paint job can get. There's also Durabake which is available in aerosol spray cans. The only difference is, the hardener is not required, but instead heat is used to cure.
If you can't find Duracoat/Durabake, try "Krylon". It's quite a bit cheaper and it comes in a spray can, but its been my experience that it's 90% as durable as Duracoat. However, it does not hold up as well to solvents and other chemicals however.
I've painted lots of stuff with both products and you won't go wrong with either. Good luck on your future projects

What we do
Armarin is selling a lot of surplus military military guns. We let old AKs look great again using Duracoat.
1- connect a piece of rope between two points and bow some big paperclips to hooks
2- Very important is to remove dirt, rust, fingerprints and grease from the gun parts. We use cake baking tins and paint thinner to degrease. Fill the tin with thinner and wash gun parts with a new paintbrush holding them with plyers. (Take care of ventilation and fire)
3- Use the paperclip hooks and let the gun parts dangling from the line (Don't use your fingers)
4- Spray the coating from a 60 cm distance moving the spout slowly up and down
Take care that no droplets build up on the spout.
In that way layers of 2 microns to 5 microns thick build up.
Its wise to practice painting something else first so you get the hang of it.
