ImageJURUPA VALLEY >> A 70-year-old armed homeowner was able to stop a would-be burglar Friday afternoon, holding him at gunpoint until authorities arrived.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department received a call Friday afternoon from a 63-year-old female in the 5300 block of Riverview Drive who said her husband, who had a permit to carry a gun, had gone outside to investigate what they believed was a burglary in process.
Once outside, the 70-year-old homeowner found a suspect trying to break inside with a crowbar.
Deputies arrived within four minutes of receiving the call and arrested Jose Rodriguez, 34, of San Bernardino, on suspicion of burglary, possession of burglary tools, and an outstanding arrest warrant.
Rodriguez was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center. Bail was set at $75,000.
Anyone with information about this incident can call, 951-955-2600.
