U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- On recent episodes of the Who Moved My Freedom Podcast (numbers 528, 536 and 559 to be exact) We have been fortunate enough to have Roy Hill Public Relations Specialist of Brownells Inc. on to update us on the skyrocketing firearms sales taking place over the last Two Months of the Covid-19 Lockdown. With over Seven Million (say that with your best Dr.Evil Voice) firearms sold this year so far, we thought the community would enjoy getting some insight from Iowa based Brownells, one of the largest firearms online retailers in the country. Just what exactly are gun folks old and new are buying and not buying in these “Uncertain Times”? First, a little background (in case you’ve been living on another Gun Planet for the last 90 years!) Brownells has come some way over the years: starting out in the 1920s as a combination gas station sandwich shop then towards the late 30’s founder Bob Brownells a genuine gun guy added gunsmithing to his repertoire. It seems from the very beginning Bob understood the power of diversification. That tradition continues today with Brownells counting one the largest online retail firearms outlets, a sizable brick and motor store in Grinnell Iowa, a few firearms and sporting goods distributors and AR-15.com, all and more under the company’s umbrella. In Episode 528, we were joined by not only Mike of MrGunsNGear, but also Roy Hill of Brownells. Episode 528 took place a few weeks into nationwide lockdown, Roy explained the biggest run was taking place with ammo, specifically 9mm, and 556/223. The reason for this I think is pretty straightforward: these are currently used in the most popular handguns and rifles being sold on the market. So if everyone is buying those guns, they need to feed the same guns a proper healthy diet, right? One thing Roy did note was that rimfire rounds such as 22 long rifle were still available both online and in-store. In the past, we’ve seen that when there’s a run on guns and ammo starts to dry up, so eventually does 22lr, we asked and answered the question why? Basically when there’s a run on ammo, manufacturers stop making the more difficult to make 22lr and focus on what’s more in demand, and at the same time we as consumers switch over to shooting the less expensive 22’s for fun and conserve our other rounds. Episode 536 is with guests American Gun Chic and Walter Keller of Safety Harbor Firearms, which took place about a month ago. Roy joined us to talk about quickly dwindling Ammo supplies and his company’s efforts to resupply stocks of Ammunition. He also spoke about the news that the Trump Administration declared the Firearms Industry an Essential Business Sector, as well as some States trying to Shut Down Gun Manufacturers in their States.

Episode 559 we were joined by BBQ Pitmaster Big Moe Cason & Will Beattie of Beer Creek Cattle Co. took place last week, during which we took the opportunity to talk about record-breaking NICS checks (National Instant Criminal Background Check System). Roy basically explained to us that the demand for ammo is still very high yet showing some small signs of slowing down at this point, so they are getting more ammunition in stock on the site. Roy also reports Crowe Shooting Supply’s Brownells Wholesaler, which sells guns to retail stores reports still selling large amounts of guns to meet the retail store demand. The conversation also took a turn in the direction of just what projects we all as gun guys are looking to get into or what guns we are looking to buy? The best advice I can boil down from the data stream we’ve seen throughout this entire Covid-19 crisis and the past few years is that we are functioning in an unpredictable time for the Firearms Industry, which on one hand looks primed to crash at any moment and on the other keeps getting pushed to higher and higher highs because of politicians on both sides of the isles disregard for the Second Amendment. Buy Low and Sell High, is still good advice, however I would also say if you have your eyes and heart set on something in the firearms world and you happen to catch it at a reasonable price, go for it if it doesn’t break your bank. Also spend some of your hard-earned money supporting the organizations you know are fighting for the Second Amendment, because they need our help now more than ever, just look at what’s happening in Canada these days!
