Arkansas police officer completes food delivery after arresting DoorDash driver

Jonesboro Police Department It’s not every day that a police officer has to make a food delivery order for a stranger during the job, but a post by the Jonesboro Police Department describes just that. On June 30, a Jonesboro police officer completed a food delivery after arresting a DoorDash driver. According to a Facebook post by the department, the DoorDash driver was arrested for not having valid car insurance and for driving with a suspended license. The driver, Justin Gist, 22, also had a warrant out for his arrest after not showing up to court for a previous charge. When the officer saw that the driver was in the middle of a delivery, he decided to drive the order to the destination himself. Body camera footage released by the department shows the officer knocking on the door of a home and asking a man if the woman who ordered the food, Sherry, was home.  He then told the woman inside that her delivery driver had been arrested and he was completing the delivery. “You’re Sherry? Alright, your DoorDash guy got arrested, so I brought your food to you,” the officer can be heard saying. “Alright! Thank you, you’re awesome,” the woman inside the house replied. According to the company’s website, DoorDash delivery drivers are screened by a third-party company called Checkr during the hiring process to check if they have any criminal history or motor vehicle offenses.
