Texas police officers recently arrested an unusual suspect in a woman’s hot tub.  According to a Facebook post by the Fulshear Police Department, a homeowner called for police assistance after she found a baby alligator swimming in her turned-off hot tub. The department joked: “An unknown suspect had entered a homeowner’s backyard and decided to go for a swim in their hot tub (not turned on). Officers Chavez and Landry quickly made the scene and observed the suspect swimming naked without regard to the owner’s wishes.” In body camera footage released by the department, the two officers could be seen carefully removing the alligator – who they named Emma – from the water and wrangling her onto the grass. Emma resisted the officers by clamping her jaw down onto the grass to avoid being taken into custody, but officers eventually were able to subdue and detain her. “The suspect resisted at first but was soon arrested and later released without further incident,” the department joked. One Facebook user added to the commentary: “I’m sorry but is no one going to mention that Emma was not read her rights. For shame FPD, for shame,” they wrote. Texas law makes it illegal for Texans to hunt, raise or possess an alligator without a license. Residents can call wildlife officials to help remove and relocate an alligator that is posing a danger or nuisance. The state of Texas defines nuisance gators as “an alligator that is depredating or a threat to human health or safety.”  Newsweek recently reported another alligator incident when a gator refused to leave a Florida home in the middle of the night, as well as a gator in Louisiana strolling through a neighborhood for 45 minutes. Both reptiles had to be forcibly removed by trappers or animal control.
