ImageGreat Bend P.D. The Great Bend Police Department never gives up on a case. The agency recently returned a missing wallet to its owner nearly 50 years after it was lost. The long-lost wallet, seemingly hand-made from leather, was found at the town’s old Crest Theater, a community theater that was formerly a cinema. It was then turned in to Great Bend police, who could not let the case go cold. The wallet still contained many antiquated items, such as a Social Security card and a driver’s license with an expiration date of 1974. Police tracked down the owner, who is now living in Lawrence, Kansas, about three hours east of Great Bend. According to a Facebook post from the department, the owner was “tickled” when he received the old wallet, which he said he made himself in his ninth-grade industrial arts class. To show their gratitude, he and his wife donated $100 for the department to allocate to a charity fund. “In today’s changing world, it is refreshing that the human spirit of generosity and kindness still prevails,” they wrote in a thank-you letter to the agency.
