Farmington Hills police officer rescues elderly woman from house fire

City of Farmington Hills, Michigan, via Facebook A Farmington Hills police officer and his K-9 rescued an elderly woman from a house fire on Oct. 25. Officer Ryan Yudt and his K-9, Dozer, were patrolling the streets in Livonia, Michigan when he saw smoke. Following the signs, he came upon a building engulfed in flames near Farmington and Six Mile roads. No call had been made to the fire or police department. City of Farmington Hills, Michigan, via Facebook After being told by neighbors that an elderly resident was inside, Yudt immediately tried to get inside. After trying to go through the front door, Yudt was repelled by smoke and extreme heat. The officer then went to the backdoor where he was able to make it inside. According to Fox 2, Yudt found the woman, who was disoriented, and carried her to safety. Firefighters arrived soon after to treat the woman and put out the fire. Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King praised Yudt for his “heroic intervention.” “If not for the heroic intervention of Officer Yudt, this resident may not have survived the smoke and fire spreading rapidly throughout her home,” King said. “Our Department is proud of Officer Yudt’s actions in saving this woman’s life. His conduct is indicative of the extraordinary bravery of our Officers and their commitment to serving and ensuring the safety of all citizens, regardless of circumstances or zip code.” Farmington Hills is located in Oakland County, Michigan, about a 20-minute drive from Livonia, which is located in Wayne County.
