By PoliceOne Staff UNION CITY, Ga. — An officer who was wounded in a deadly shootout on April 1 remains in the hospital this week. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Officer Jerome Turner Jr. was shot six or seven times during the incident and has undergone three surgeries. He will have another procedure in the coming days. Turner has only been with the department since December. He previously served as a police chief in Florida and was reportedly the youngest police chief the state when he was sworn-in in 2013. Turner’s wife, Kyla, says he’s been handling everything well and is ready to get back on the job. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
